It being Saturday morning we had a bit of a lie-in so it was around 10:00 before we got moving--which was only as far as the pool and a wake-up swim.

After a cloudy beginning things cleared up so that by the time the sun was shining from a clear sky it was getting very hot and humid. Then the cusomary omelette and coffee for breakfast. We had already debated where we would go--not too far, but someplace different. The pictures of the Hyatt hotel gardens in Sanura looked appealing, so we booked a car from the tourist office across the road.

When he dropped us off at Sanura the driver led us astray in telling us the wrong direction to walk in. Pupi's communications skills got us on the right road eventually, and I made enquiries at the reception as regards staying at the hotel next week. This gave us an excuse to ask about the gardens, and we were invited to inspect them. There was a marvellous collection of tropical trees, shrubs and flowers there. Vast variety of trees and shrubs, several ponds had Teratai (water lily) and Water Jasmine. Also bougainvillea and orchids.

We spent some time going around the gardens, then checked out the beach, at which point it was obvious it was going to start raining. We headed back towards the cafe, which was offering afternoon tea for 24,000 rupiahs. Saw out the rainstorm, Pupi quiet, gazing at the lush tropical greenery spread out in front of us, while I read a copy of the Herald Tribune. She pointed out the Daun Sirih plant. Another type of this plant is used to avoid infection, and by the older women to clean their teeth. This was the plant I had growing in the apartment in Stuttgart. Then walked to the end of the lane where we hired a taxi to take us first to the remains of an old temple, then to the hotel where Mick Jagger and other celebrities stayed, before taking us back to the hotel.

We watched TV for a bit, Indonesian comedy shows, CNN, MTV (from Thailand), talked a little about our trip.
