About my work....

At various times in the past I've set up my own business as a technical writer and translator. In addition to traditional hardcopy documentation development, I have extensive experience in developing online help systems and in Web publishing. I've also worked in other software support areas, including end-user interface design, testing, training, and project management.

When not tech writing to pay the bills, I do some writing for websites, primarily travel articles, and intend expanding this to contributing articles to online and offline publications.

I also do some freelance translation, editing, proofreading, and Web content development.

In my spare time....

I like to play around with the computer, read history, follow sport, meet friends and play/sing at music sessions. To practise web development, I have put together web sites for some of my interests, and list the URLs below.

• Outings with colleagues and friends. Everything from restaurants to karting, traditional music to night-clubs.
• Sport, following the Dublin GAA team, the Irish soccer team and the Irish, Munster and Leinster rugby teams.

• Travel.

  In 2000 the big trip was to South-East Asia.

  2001 started off in Naples, which I revisited over Easter. In June/July I was in South Africa and afterwards in London. In August at the Lantra translator's workshop in Tralee and in September in Germany and Holland.

  2002 back in Naples for Easter. From mid-May to Mid-July at the World Cup 2002 in Japan and Korea, along with a trip to some other countries.

  Since then I've taken shorter trips abroad every year, including Italy, USA, England and Germany.

• Vespa. Whizzing around the city and countryside on my PX200, the Silver Bullet.
• Softball.

  Bowne Braves softball team started out as absolute beginners in 2000, and I played with them until I left the company.
