Morning

Went to a nearby, very Western-styled, cafe for breakfast.

Afternoon

Afterwards planned to go the museum. When we arrived there we found it was closed, though couldn't figure out why. Since we were now at a loose end, and just across the road from the zoo, decided to go there instead. Big mistake, as far as I'm concerned. I'm not a zoo person anyway—I just don't like to see animals locked up in small cages. Surabaya Zoo, though, probably has the worst conditions of any zoo I've been to. And the place is packed. Folks go there to chill out, and have picnics on the grass or simply stretch out at the entrances to buildings and go to sleep. Music is piped out all over the enclosure at high volume.

Evening

That evening went for dinner to Cafe Venezia. Quite dowdy, and over-run with mosquitoes, though we remained indoors. Couldn't wait to get out and back to the hotel.
