Day 42: Thursday 27 June, Kuala Lumpur

To next day

Spent too long this morning trying out some of the software on the CD I had bought the previous evening, and then my watch stopped at nine o'clock, which threw me off completely. I had to hurry to take my luggage to the Central Station (Stesen Sentral) and left it in the left luggage room. Then had lunch in the pleasant Indian restaurant (Shareeza, I think it was called) near the luggage lockers.

Again headed for the Petronas twin towers, but again was unsuccessful in getting tickets. It had also started raining quite heavily, so it wasn't a good time to start any further explorations of the city. Instead I spent most of the afternoon in the extensive and well-stocked six-storey mall (ampang) that surrounds the base of the towers.

By the way, in addition to having the tallest building in the world, Kuala Lumpur also claims to have the tallest flagpole in the world (95m) and the longest mural in the world (painted on the outside walls of the derelict Pudu Jail).

Then back to the Stesen Sentral where I had another meal in the Shareeza restaurant before boarding the train. On the train, in the sleeper across from me, I made the acquaintance of Matt, from Norwich.
