Day 53: Monday 8 July, Bangkok
|
|
Spent all morning exploring the lanes and arcades surround the hotel. Joined the gang at the
MyFriend for a few drinks after lunch. Anthony, who plays drums, told us he had gotten a gig with a band that plays in a nightclub. I was told that before coming out here he had been in prison for a few years, for robbing a post office with a shotgun. Never worked in his life, apparently. Then it started to pour rain, which forced everyone indoors. Exhorted to buy St. Lukes powder for prickly heat, to apply to my arms, (Anthony swears it's a cure-all)
so I headed off in search of the department store that sold it, and then took a long walk to see whatever sights were in the neighbourhood.
Afterwards I retreated to the hotel and tried to read the "Fourth Estate", but it was rubbish (and boring
rubbish at that). Gave up and exchanged it for another Archer book at the reception, "The Eleventh Commandment", also pretty thrashy, but page-turningly so.
